Network: Women’s Health:Scientific network - linking together the fields of global and migrant reproductive health
Abstract [sv]
Several Nordic researchers have had a long tradition of research in the area of global reproductive health, producing several PhD thesis and scientific papers based on material from developing countries. Recently, Nordic researchers have started to explore women’s health, maternal and perinatal ill-health among immigrants, especially from Africa, compared to native-born residents. This background provide us with an opportunity to create a network between researchers in global reproductive health and migrant health. The all over objective of the network is to link women’s health issues in low-income countries and in what way knowledge and experience could be adopted among a migrant population in more high-income settings like Sweden. The aim is to bring together and ´cross-fertilize’ international reproductive health research within a migration perspective. The participants include senior as well as junior researchers in the fields of medicine, midwifery and social science. It will provide a unique group able to share research results from low-resource setting in migrant population within high-resource settings which will stimulate innovative research topics in a north to south and south to north directions. The network will create a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas, in particular regarding methodological, cultural, socio-economic and ethical aspects and development of a common research agenda that could be used for fund-raising. Working activities will be to establishment an internet-based communication system for the network and holding meetings with workshop twice a year with Uppsala University as the platform.
