Title [sv]
SWE-2010-60Maternal mortality and near miss in post genocide Rwanda- a study of criteria, outcome and barriers to maternal health
Abstract [sv]
Maternal mortality is a well known indicator of women´s access to social and health opportunities. Severe maternal morbidity, near miss, is gaining interest as a new quality indicator of obstetric care. With higher numbers, possibly less blame and the option of getting the mother´s own story, maternal near miss can give the opportunity of earlier prevention and corrective action. Our study contains a facility based quantitative and a qualitative part. Our objectives are to contribute to improved maternal health in Rwanda by indentifying barriers to better maternal survival at hospital level. We aim at identifying medical and socioeconomic factors as well as behaviours associated with risk of maternal mortality and morbidity and to investigate different methods of studying maternal ill-health and measure quality of obstetric care.
