Shared home care involves different professionals, consists of mobile work and requires immediate and ubiquitous access to patient-oriented data that are documented in different information systems belonging to different care providers. When different care professionals are involved in a patient’s care without proper coordination, the care process may not be meaningfully integrated. We therefore analysed the specific demands for shared home care in close cooperation with district nurses, home helpers and general practitioners using user centred system development methods in order to achieve a holistic view of the entire work process. Based on experiences from interdisciplinary working groups, we present specific demands to take into consideration when developing IT-systems for shared home care. This paper shows what information is needed as well as how a user centred system engineering approach could assist in improving cooperation in shared home care.
