Abstract [en]

The knowledge that cobalt powder is carcinogenic upon inhalation is a strong motivation to find an alternative to substitute or reduce the cobalt content in hardmetals. This work studies an alternative binder alloy of 50 Fe - 25 Ni - 25 Co (in wt%). This alloy is interesting because of its possibility to undergo a phase transformation from austenite to martensite upon mechanical load. This work aims at investigating the combined possibilities in ion polishing, Rockwell indentation and electron backscattering diffraction for studying this phase transformation. It is discovered that the technique gives some valuable information, but more work needs to be done to properly be able to index the binder in deformed areas.
