Normativitiy and Reality

This article is a review of Ulla Schmidts dissertation "Normativity and Reality". In this dissertation is given an interesting contribution to the ethical discourse on justification of moral judgments. The author gives an interpretation of Trutz Rendtorffs "ethical theology", but she is also developing her own theory on ethical normativitiy. Her thesis is that we encounter an ethical demand which is an inherent and unavoidable part of human life-reality.
The method used in the dissertation is "discursive and systematic", which means that Schmidt develops her own thesis by clarifying Rendtorffs position. One objection against this method is that the position of Rendtorff is often taken for granted, without any further arguments. However, the dissertation is a valuable contribution to the dialogue between theological ethics and moral philosophy.
