Selfie : An ethnological studie of selfportraits as practice and communication. (English)
Abstract [en]

Selfies, smartphone self-portrait distributed by social media, are discussed, as a part of a bro- ader photographic practice. Seven interviews are analyzed with practice theory, and mediali- zation perspective.

Selfies are primary not a memory but a communicative gesture, a kind of chat we use to crea- te, maintain and confirm our social relations. Selfies are used by the informants as a way of telling who they are, what they do, where they are and also with who they are. As media tech- nology advances our forms of communication adapts to the new possibilities for communica- tion but also change the way we communicate.
