Abstract [en]

This study examines how the Quantity Theory of Money applies to a new estimation of historical economic variables in Sweden between the years 1620 to 2012. With Milton Friedman’s paper as a theoretical framework, this essay examines the Quantity Theory of Money by performing an Engle-Granger method of cointegration-analysis on the velocity of money. Additionally a case-study is performed to examine causality and the neutrality of money. Furthermore the relationship between interest and velocity is examined. This study finds support for the Quantity Theory of Money and finds the relationship between interest and velocity to be positive.
