Abstract [sv]

Abstract

Many organizations are implementing a new way of working, activity based working. It means increased freedom, while at the same time placing new demands on both employees and management. This essay is based on a study conducted at the Akademiska sjukhuset, where the activity based working approach was introduced in the autumn of 2015. The main purpose of the study was to investigate whether differences could be noted between different age categories and their experiences of working in an activity based manner. Interviews were conducted with employees of different age groups, and the results obtained was then analyzed on the basis of Foucault's theory of supervision and discipline, Beronius' theoretical term "the disciplinary space", Goffman's "impression management” and Alvesson's "organizational culture". The results of the study showed that there are no clear differences between the different age groups' experiences of the activity based way of working at the workplace in question.
