Abstract [en]

The setting of the Swedish municipal housing sector provides an opportunity to assess a novel research field within political economy. That of politicians in the board of directors and their party impact on businesses outcomes. This paper estimates the alliance share member impact in the board of directors on the performance, efficiency, risk-taking and employee male share of the companies using a fixed effect estimator. The paper contributes with a manually gathered dataset on the political association of the municipal housing companies board of directors. The results of this paper are to a large extent non-significant with large confidence intervals mostly due to lacking identifying variation. However the results of this paper suggests that the alliance share have close to zero impact on efficiency and a significant positive impact on the employee male share of the municipal housing companies.
