Abstract [en]

Integration of immigrants has been and continues to be a hotly debated issue in the Netherlands. Politicians from left to right, widely agree that if immigrants come to live in the Netherlands, they must integrate (inburgeren). However, there is no a consensus on how to best integrate the immigrants especially in terms of the values, manners and norms. Important concepts such as values and norms are often vague, and thus difficult to follow. But integrators are required to know these concepts together with manners in order to pass the KNM part of the integration exam (inburgeringsexamen). As a result, there is a need to investigate what the manners, norms and values are in the policy documents and how they are presented in the textbooks of KNM. In order to research the contents regarding manners, norms and values that integrators have to study for the KNM, textbooks of KNM is thus essential primary sources to analyze.
