Education and ideology : Hegemony and ideology in the South African univerisities during apartheid and democracy (English)
Abstract [en]

A research about the univerisities part in creating hegemony and promoting a states ideology in South Africa. The aim with the essay is to research the univerisities part in the creation of a ideology and in building hegemony. This is done by asking one main question and two subqueries. The material studied is yearly reports published by the Department of Bantu-Education and the Department of Education, arts and science from the years 1965 - 1967, a report published by the National Commission on Higher Education in 1996 and yearly reports published by the Department of Education from the years 2005 - 2007. The material is studied trough the theoretical lenses provided by Antonio Gramsci and his theory about the concept of hegemony. The answers this essay provides is that the univerisites has played a part in the creation and promoting av ideology and the creation of hegemony during both the apartheid and the democratic era, but  more so during the apartheid era.
