Explaining Evidence and the Revolution in Historiography from the Nineteen-Sixties to Nineteen-Ninety
Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Department of History.
2018 (English)In: Storia della Storiografia, ISSN 0392-8926, E-ISSN 2281-1141, Vol. 73, no 1, p. 71-87Article in journal (Refereed) Published
Abstract [en]

The idea of this article is to hinge an interpretation of the revolution of historiography during the 1960s to the end of the 1980s on the possibility of grading the plausibility and the fruitfulness of the historian's inferences to the best explanation of available evidence. The arguments brought about by C. Behan McCullagh on plausbility and by Peter Liption on likeliness and loveliness of hypotheses are used as a key of understanding what the revolution of historiography was about.
