Abstract [en]

During the last decade there has been an extensive debate about ethnic diversity and social cohesion. In light of this debate, this paper studies local variation in neighbourhoods in Sweden, to examine whether living in ethnically segregated areas has any effect for social trust. This also provides a greater understanding for contextual effects. The analyses are based on data from the Swedish Citizen Survey 2003 and Small Areas for Market Statistics. For the result, regression analysis was used. The results showed some evidence for a contextual effect of ethnic heterogeneity on social trust. Secondly, the investigation showed no significant variation for the relationship between natives and immigrants.
