Unga kvinnors erfarenhet av samtalsmodellen Guided Self Determination Young: En intervjustudie

Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Diabetes är en sjukdom där det ställs höga krav på individens förmåga att balansera olika behov i vardagslivet. Unga kvinnor med typ 1 diabetes har sämre blodsockernivåer och upplever större diabetesbörda än unga män i samma ålder.

Syfte: Syftet med intervjustudien var att beskriva unga kvinnors erfarenheter avseende egenvård, support och familjekonflikter i det dagliga livet och efter deltagandet i enskilda samtal med Guided Self-Determination-Young modellen.

Metod: En kvalitativ intervjustudie med induktiv ansats. Urvalet till studien baserades på åtta kvinnor som deltagit i enskilda samtal med Guided Self -Determination-Young modellen. 

Resultat: I analysen framkom ett övergripande tema; Unga kvinnor har behov av mer personcentrerat stöd från vården. De tre kategorierna som framkom i analysen var; relation till diabetes, erfarenheter av stöd och strävan mot autonomi.  Efter genomförandet av samtal med reflektionsbladen upplevde de unga kvinnorna att de fått en ökad förståelse om sig själva och att deras inställning till vården positivt förbättrades.

Slutsats: GSD-Y för unga kvinnor med typ 1 diabetes kan leda till att individens egenvårdsförmåga stärks. Den traditionella vården behöver förändras och utvecklas för att anpassas till varje enskild individ som är i behov av vård. Hälso- och sjukvårdspersonal behöver ta till sig personcentreringsfilosofin som innebär att bjuda in patienten och fånga dennas egen kapacitet, resurser och mål för att bidra till god hälsa och minska risken för framtida komplikationer.

Abstract [en]

Background: Diabetes is a disease where high demands are placed on an individual's ability to balance diverse needs in everyday life. Young women with type 1 diabetes have poorer blood sugar levels, is experiencing increasing diabetes burden than young men of the same age. This can lead to an increased risk for future complications. 

Aims: To describe young women's experiences of self-management, support and family conflicts in daily life and after participation in individual sessions using Guided Self-Determination-Young.

Method: A qualitative interview study with inductive approach. The sample for this study was based on eight women who participated in individual conversations with Guided Self-Determination- Young.

Results: The analysis revealed overall theme; Young women need personcentered support from health care. The three categories that emerged from the analysis were; attitudes towards diabetes, experience of support and striving for autonomy. After the conversations when the reflection worksheets were used, the young women experienced that they gained a better understanding of themselves, and their approach to health care positively improved.

Conclusion: Guided Self Determination-Young for young women with type 1 diabetes may help to strengthen the individual's ability to self- management. The traditional healthcare system needs change and develop in order to be adapted to every individual in need of care. Health care professionals need to embrace the philosophy personcentered care that means inviting the patient and catch their own capabilities, resources and objectives in order to contribute to good health and reduce the risk of future complications.
