Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study aims to lift the invisible requirements behind work-related part-time employment during the period of education among human resource students. This is answered on the basis of three questions, which are referred as, how do students perceive the driving forces behind work related part time employment during their education? How do students view their own learning from studies and work related part time employment? And how do students prioritize increasing their employability? Previous research presents statistics on part-time students and the different effects they generate. Employability, mental illness and future career are also addressed in relation to studies and part-time work among students. The survey was applied based on qualitative method where ten interviews were based on data for the data material. The participating respondents were students within the education with a focus on personal and working life at Uppsala University and students within year one or year three, half of whom were actively participating in a work-related part-time work. The theories which the study is based on are Ellström´s informal and formal learning and Foucault's theory of norm and power.

The result shows that there are perceived invisible requirements to hold a part-time employment alongside studies. Where the main factors behind are the importance of practical experience for a future career and influence of the context. The combination of learning based on situations at work and education is considered to be important for students individual learning and the way students learn best. Students also work part-time for the purpose of increasing their own employability for their future career. The results have subsequently been discussed in relation to previous research and selected theories.
