Abstract [en]

When top ranked junior tennis players graduate High School, they often need to make thedifficult decision between trying to go pro or if they should go to the US and play tennis incollege while getting their Bachelor’s degree. This thesis will identify the probability ofbecoming a professional tennis player on the ATP tour as an 18 year old when it is time to makethis decision. Data from the top 150 ranked juniors every year between 2004-2011 has been used. What mainly has been analyzed is their junior ranking, their best career ranking, and if theyplayed college tennis or not. The results show that going to college will have a positive impacton the chances of going pro for those who are ranked in the top 8 as a junior, but a negativeimpact for those who are outside the top 8. But there are also many other factors besides thejunior ranking that should be considered when making this decision.
