Mot bakgrund i den så kallade affektiva vändningen i human- och samhällsvetenskaperna och i den politiska retoriken belyser denna uppsats en ny typ av ryskt identitesnarrativ och ett anti-globalistiskt projekt grundat i en uppsättning emotioner betraktade som nationella. Genom att använda konceptet "emotional communities" som analysverktyg analyserar jag ryskhetens uttryck i romanen Laurus av Evgenij Vodolazkin. Jag anser den ecklesiastiska nostalgin som den dominerande emotionen förmedlad av romanen Laurus och försöker analysera denna emotions uttryck i romanen inom specifika underkategorier såsom ekologisk nostalgi, eskatologisk nostalgi, interaktioner mellan djur och människor och så vidare. I den andra delen av analysen använder jag diskursanalys och respektive närläsning för att analysera den sociala platsen "det gamla Ryssland" i relation till den sociala platsen "Väst" och respektive "Öst" för att belysa den ryska identitetsdiskursen som en distinkt civilisation där emotionernas logik är starkare än förnuftets. Här används ett postkolonialt perspektiv. Vidare visar jag på att det kosmopolitiska identitetsprojektet, det vill säga framläggandet av en identitetsdiskurs bortom skillnader vad gäller etnicitet, kön, religion, grundad i emotionernas logik i själva verket är ett uttryck för det konservativa identitetsnarrativet i Ryssland efter 2012 där de emotionella gemenskaperna är ett uttryck av det religionsfilosofiska konceptet "sobornost'" med rötter i kristendomen. Avslutningsvis analyserar jag detta identitetsnarrativs plats bland nätverket av identitesnarrativ uppbyggda i det postsovjetiska Ryssland. Den teoretiska bakgrunden är förankrad framför allt i forskningsfältet ”popular geopolitics” där samspelet mellan populär kultur, geopolitik och identitet ges särskild uppmärksamhet.

Against the background of the so-called affective turn in the humanities and social sciences and in political rhetoric, this essay sheds light on a new type of Russian identity narrative and an anti-globalist project based on a set of emotions considered national. Using the concept of "emotional communities" as an analysis tool, I analyze the expression of Russianness in the novel Laurus by Evgeny Vodolazkin. I consider the ecclesiastical nostalgia as the dominant emotion conveyed by the novel Laurus and try to analyze the expression of this emotion in the novel within specific subcategories such as ecological nostalgia, eschatological nostalgia, interactions between animals and humans and so on. In the second part of the analysis, I use discourse analysis and close reading respectively to analyze the social place "Old Russia" in relation to the social place "West" and "East" in order to illuminate the Russian identity discourse as a distinct civilization where the logic of emotions is stronger than that of reason. A postcolonial perspective is used here. Furthermore, I point out that the cosmopolitan identity project, that is, the presentation of an identity discourse beyond differences in ethnicity, gender, religion, based on the logic of emotions is in fact an expression of the conservative identity narrative in Russia after 2012 where the emotional communities are a expression of the religious-philosophical concept "sobornost" with roots in Christianity. Finally, I analyze the place of this identity narrative among the network of identity narratives built in post-Soviet Russia. The theoretical background is anchored above all in the research field "popular geopolitics" where the interplay between popular culture, geopolitics and identity is given special attention.
