Abstract [en]

This report deals with predicting runoff in ‘ungauged’ catchments using a conceptual water balance model. More than 20 catchments situated in the central part of Sweden ranging in size from 6.18 km2 to 1293 km2 have been calibrated and model parameter values were derived. Using multiple regression analysis the obtained model parameters were related to measurable basin characteristics (percentage of lake and percentage of forest cover) and predicting equations found. These equations were used in simulating monthly streamflow for five randomly selected catchments. Acceptable results were obtained. This allows a fairly accurate estimation of monthly water yield at any location within the study region.
