Abstract [en]
The phenomenon that there seems to be a disconnect between people’s reported privacy concerns and their partaking and sharing on online platforms has been aptly named the “privacy paradox.”. Exploring the existence of the privacy paradox on some of today’s online platforms will be the objective of this thesis. The data used was attitudinal and self-reported use of nine different popular online platforms from 2500 people in the United States aged 18 to 44, and it was collected at the beginning of 2022. The results from the multiple regressions do point towards the fact of there being a paradox when looking at each individual platform when looking at if people’s privacy views can be used to predict use. This is discussed in relation to previous studies looking at the phenomenon and recommendations for future research directions are laid out in the discussion.
