Under 1800-talets gång förändrades kvinnors ställning i samhället enormt och med det förväntningarna på vad kvinnor skulle vara och vilka möjligheter dem hade. Detta bettyde att kvinnor konstruerade sin egen kvinnlighet på ett nytt sätt, och en viktig källa till detta var de följetonger som gick i olika kvinno- och familjetidningar. I dessa fick kvinnor tydliga mallar på vad de fick göra och vad som fortfarande inte ansågs möjligt för kvinnor. Genom att läsa och analysera dylika följetonger från Bojes Magasin och Idun har denna uppsats undersökt hur dessa mallar förädras men också vad som är konstanter genom 1800-talet. Resultatet visar att även om kvinnor fick ökade möjligheter att existera utanför rollen som hustru och värdinna, var det viktigt att de fortfarande hade husliga egenskaper och difrentierades från männen, exempelvis genom att underminera profestionaliteten av deras yrkespositioner. Trots att kvinnligheten utvidgades var det ändå en mall som kvinnor måste fortsätta följa för att inte bli straffade av samhället. 

During the 19th century the place of women in society went throug changes and with it the expectations placed on women, and which opportunities they had. This meant women constructed their own womanhood in different ways in the end of the century comapred to the end, and an important instrument for this was the serialized fiction published in womens and family magazines. Here women got a clear template for how to act and what they could do with their lives. By reading and analyzing these serialized stories from Boijes Magasin and Idun this paper exemines the changes in these templates, but also the things that stay concistant thoughout the century. The results show that even through women got more opportunites to exist outside of a role as wives and hostesess an importance was still placed on them having the qualities asociated with that role, and they had to be diferantiated from men. Despite more possibilities the constructed womanhood was still a pattern women had to follow to avoid being punished by society.
