Abstract [en]

Extracting information from documents in critical and stressful situations is often difficult, especially when stressed or inundated with information that might be irrelevant at that moment. This thesis concerns the development of a web-based highlighting system for PDF documents in collaboration with the company Data2Value. The developed system aims to reduce unnecessary time spent by healthcare staff searching for information, potentially reducing care injuries. This tool makes it possible to tag PDFs on text segments as well as handle and store relevant metadata for those segments in a SQL database. These segments can then later be found with the use of the stored metadata and tags. The usability of the developed system was tested with user tests on healthcare professionals. Overall the system was deemed easy to use and could effectivise the process of looking up relevant information from longer documents.
