Abstract [en]

This study examines the performance of native Swedish and Chinese speakers in face-threatening situations. The purpose of this contrastive pragmatic study is to find out what motivates and influences people’s performances in face-threatening acts, as well as if the thesis on the universality of face (Brown & Levinson, 1987) holds.
