Abstract [en]

The development in Swedish law as regards the legal regulation of marriage-like cohabitation is analyzed, starting from the 1960s onwards. Special attention is given to the rules on property division which are applicable upon termination of the relationship. In an international comparison, the Swedish solutions appear exceptional. Today, more than 30 % of all couples living together in Sweden are not married. Almost 60 % of children are born out of marriage.
