On the Finance Transformation into a Network of Shared Service Centers: A Global Case of Organizational and Technological Change
2007 (English)In: The Nordic Workshop XII for Management Accounting, 2007Conference paper (Other (popular scientific, debate etc.))
This paper explores the technological and organisational issues of a transformation of the global telecommunication company Ericsson’s finance functions – changing from a decentralised strucuture into a network of shared service centers. The purpose is to create an understanding of the complex change process as such. With a processual and dynamic stance the change process is followed in real-time. The empirical driven case-study illustrate the difficult dance of change where it is necessarily to move from an existent situation, were different local and national companies are dependent on their own systems, models and charts of accounts; towards a new situation implying common global management models, concepts and information. In addition, the study provides contribution by highlighting the notion that technology enabled change can emerge as a hermeneutic circle; and in so doing it illuminates its influence on how change is managed and consequently the outcome of change.
