Lyrikern Gustaf Larsson - som jag ser honom

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

A study of the leading poet of the island of Gotland in the Baltic Gustaf Larsson and his poetry in the regional tongue ("gutamål") as well as in Swedish. Larsson´s beginning as a poet and his dependence upon the Swedish mainland-lyric of the 1890ies is highlighted, in particular various similarities with the Nobelprize laureate E A Karlfeldt. First and foremost the apparent affinitiy with ancient Icelandic poetry is emphasized. Whereas a Stockholm audience is incapable of understanding the gutamål-poet Larsson without a translation, the inhabitants of Reykjavík are not.
