This paper is about silence, producing borders, violent rhetoric and
conflicting worldviews. It is an attempt to unveil the conditions behind
cultural achievements and the use of powerful procedures to maintain order in
European car industries. Violence is occurring in a zero time, in the same way
the Freudian tradition suggests that words such as “near” and “far” would be
the same, pronounced with different emphasis. The discussion is based on
field notes from three major car producers in Sweden, Czech Republic and
United Kingdom.
The break down of class interests became a consequence of the new economy. The
revolutionary theme, the efforts of starting a new era by image making, with
different political approvals and with a focus on loyalty, created open spaces
of experiment. There were no obligation to take history into account;
traditional class patterns were handed over to history. The culturalisation of
everyday life became a dominant view on diversity and individuality.
