The biomimetic catalytic enantioselective addn. of aldehydes to amines is reported. This was accomplished by combining biomimetic coupled catalytic aerobic oxidn. of amines involving ruthenium-induced dehydrogenation and organocatalytic asym. Mannich reactions. The one-pot reactions furnished Î²-amino aldehyde and Î±-amino acid derivs. in high yields with excellent chemoselectivity and enantioselectivity. [on SciFinder(R)]
