Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been gaining momentum and nowadays is becoming a recognized concept, as a facilitator for increasing environmental and social awareness.
This paper shows the results of a thorough research on the different disclosure platforms used by the 20 Spanish companies included in the DJSI World index during 2011 for a specific set of economic, environmental and social aspects. In the context of this study, the aforementioned companies were benchmarked, taking into account the disclosure of management principles, performance objectives, goals setting and use of communication platforms to disclose sustainability information.
It is worth noting that this research aimed not at evaluating these companies, but rather how high set their efforts at implementing sustainability at the core of the company and communicating their sustainability performance.
The research also aimed at testing Dow Jones Sustainability Index as a reputed sustainability benchmark. Additionally, and it has been used to set the boundary for the companies to analyze, and the ethical, environmental and social indicators to study.
It is the final goal to contribute to the current pool of knowledge in CSR and lay another stone in the pavement towards global sustainability.
