Abstract [en]

This is a one year master´s thesis in archival science at Uppsala University, Sweden. As part of the thesis I haveorganised and catalogued the archive of Samdok at Nordiska museet in Stockholm, Sweden's largest museum ofcultural history.Samdok was founded in 1977 and is an association of Swedish museums of cultural history. Throughetnological research, Samdok has done broad research into, and collecting of contemporary Swedish artifacts.Samdok also collaborates with international networks such as COMCOL, ICOM and NORSAM.Beside protocols, the archive consists of records from courses, conferences, projects, research and otheractivities that have taken part within Samdok. The archive also includes photographs from research material andconferences. Digital photographs are registered in the Primus database. The Samdok journal between the years 1977–2011 gives great insight into the organisation and the activitiesand are also kept in the archive. Numbers between 2010–2011 are available on Nordiska museets website underthe name Samdok-forum.Most of the research are kept in the different museums that are active in the network, but the database”Samdokregistret” is a good guidance to what kind of research has been done and where it´s kept. This essay discusses the catalogueing procedure, problems that occured and why I chose to structure it theway it is presented. Problems with the provenance is mentioned in the first part of the essay, while the usabilityand searchability in general, and especially in the Samdok archive, are discussed in the end.
