Some Data on Mate-Selection: Complementarity
Uppsala University, Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Sociology.
1967 (English)In: Journal of Marriage and Family, ISSN 0022-2445, E-ISSN 1741-3737, Vol. 29, no 4, 730-738 p.Article in journal (Refereed) Published
Abstract [en]

In this article data from an interview survey among newlyweds and couples who have 'published the bans," concerning the mate-selection situation, are presented, and aspects concerned with complementary needs also are discussed. Both spouses were interviewed among 295 couples after a dropout of 30 percent. Winch's theory is not confirmed. Some parameters are studied to find subareas where the theory could be confirmed; the results are merely negative. The author's opinion is that the theory is much too unspecified, and some suggestions are presented.
