Summary: The effect of competitive inhibitors onparticulate chymotrypsin and trypsin is described.Whereas the hydrolysis of slow substrates is inhibitedin the same way as for the soluble enzymes, the hydrolysis of fast substrates is inhibited to amarkedly less extent. After solubilization of the enzyme-carrier conjugate by dextranase, the propertiesof the free enzymes are regained. Implications for the study of naturally membrane-boundenzymes are discussed
