Abstract [en]

The diachronic development of the Earlier Egyptian 'semi-auxiliary' xpr.n is proposed to offer a model for the general grammaticalsiation of auxiliaries in this language via a syntactic reanalysis of an erstwhile complex consisting of a superordinate verb and a clausal subject complement.
