Abstract [en]

Where and when should one begin to seek Europe’s intellectual and spiritual roots? Naturally, the answer to this question can be based on a number of perspectives. One common denominator is to start the search in the classical heritage; that is to say, the heritage from the Greek and Roman civilisations, and those religious traditions that have been dominant in Europe. Since my area of research is the history of Muslim ideas, I choose to find the answer to this question on the basis of the encounter between Europe and Muslim civilisation during the European Middle Ages.
