Abstract [en]

This essay deals with the interpretation of the artist Paul Klee and the philosopher F.W.J. Schelling from romantics and the early modernism of the 20th’century with a special focus on the question how an artist can create and mediat. This question leads the investigation further on to the question of what is creation in a pictorial silent language. Klee and Schelling has a lot in common and I aim to examine more what it is and not.

The focus lies here on three subjects namely: the decorative, movement and nature. It is around those three subject that the main question reaches its goal of explanation. Content is a main key to the thoughts of Klees theory of art and philosophy. The main thing in Klees thoughts is that thanks to the transmission of images from nature they are reflected once again in the art.

The examination of F.W.J. Schelling is done by the same three main subjects as in Klee. Schellings philosophy circulates around the meaning of the absolute. The absolute is both a whole and a part at the same time and like the decorative it has its meaning in itself with and without form. The image resolving contemplation can be seen as an resolution of Klees question about trying to talk a language of the images movement. Klee that has the key to create new worlds by his act of creating art, while Schelling is talking about the non-thinking in the thinking. A non-thinking in thinking which is when the eye lies still and observe while the images moves in our heads by the power of our imagination.
