Abstract [en]

This paper describes ongoing work on the integration of a machine translation software, Multra, into the multilingual document processing environment of Scania CV AB. Multra is a prototype of a modular, transfer-based MT-system with Swedish as its source language. It handles translation into English and German, based on a common analysis structure. In order to guarantee consistency in the original as well as in the translated versions of the documents, a controlled language, ScaniaSwedish, is defined. Also, a language checker for this

language is developed. The core of the checker is the analysis component of Multra. The checker will provide two kinds of results, i.e. a controlled version of the text and the text as a sequence of grammatical structures. These structures can then be forwarded to transfer and further generation. In other words, checking the text means taking the first step in the translation process. The checker is developed in parallel with the definition of ScaniaSwedish.
