Abstract [en]

The different means to stimulate public participation in urban planning in Jelgava, Latvia, is reviewed. Questionnaires, exhibits, public discussions, etc were used to reach as many as possible. While many hundred of the inhabitants did take part, some groups were identified as more active, such as teachers, medical personnel and students. Key areas for public participation were identified as environmental quality, social and economic development, garbage management and the planning of cementeries.
