ColLabWoW: development of a decision support add-on for World of Warcraft

Abstract [en]

Social online games can be studied to find a relationship between these virtual worlds and civic activism, in order to find what game attributes can lead to which social and civic outcomes. Social interaction and power structure, among many other characteristics of digital media, are limited by the creators of each virtual world.

A change to the power structure  may affect the thinking and behavior of the players involved, in and out of the game. To study this phenomenon, the collaborative decision-making tool ColLab has been integrated in a Massive Multiplayer Online Game, World of Warcraft. The process of the design, implementation and evaluation of the first iteration of this integration is described here.
