Mechanical integrity assessment of man-locks (English)
Abstract [en]

This report presents an examination of the mechanical integrity and inspectability of the attachments of man locks in the containment buildings at the Forsmark nuclear power station. The objective of the report is to provide a basis for decisions related to inspection and nondestructive testing of the attachment welds.

Two mock-ups of the man locks have been manufactured. These have been used for assessing the inspectability of the attachment welds, and for providing test pieces for load tests and reference standards for ultrasonic testing.

Strength calculations have been performed using the computation program ANSYS 13.0, and based on load tests performed on test pieces from mock-ups. The results of these calculations indicate that the attachment welds can be expected to support the design loads. Tests show that the attachment welds can be inspected with a fiber optical camera.
