So this is where it happens? : A Comparative Study of Student nations’ and Faculty associations’ use of External Communication in Uppsalas Student community (Swedish)
Abstract [en]

This study aims to investigate in which way student nations and faculty associations organise and outline their external communication towards the students of Uppsala, and also in which way strategic communication is used. Key questions to be answered are: are there any differences in the external communication of student nations och faculty associations? What are the goals of the external communication? In which way is strategic communication used? Which communication channels are used? In what way is the student nation or the faculty association profiled?

The material consists of interviews with functionaries at three different student nations and three faculty associations in Uppsala. The analysis is based on theories of external communication, strategic communication, the choice of media channels and profiling.

The main results show that, due to the joint marketing policy of the student nations, the potential to communicate externally differs for student nations and faculty associations. The faculty associations have an advantage in having a more distinct target group, which facilitates when modeling the profiling and strategic communication of the society. In spite of the differences concerning preconditions, the study shows no great differences between the external communication of student nations and faculty associations. For example, both student nations and faculty associations proved to combine inward and outward oriented strategies when it comes to distributing information.
