Productivity in the public sector: a study of the Swedish Social Insurance Agency: Improving the productivity estimate to better reflect the performance and production over time
Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
This study discusses the subject of estimating productivity in the public sector with the Swedish Social Insurance Agency as example. Initially, the various problems of how to measure productivity in the public sector are examined. This is followed by a description of the current method to estimate productivity and an attempt to improve the estimation by alterations of the variables included in the output. I find that improvements of the productivity estimate can be made, although the data for the alterations is collected merely from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency’s own annual reports. With access to more data, the possibilities to improve the estimate of productivity development are even better.
