Improvising Two Different Responses to Persecution: First Peter’s Innovations and Relationship to the corpus Paulinum

Abstract [en]

First Peter is indebted to certain Pauline letters but also reflects developments beyond the corpus Paulinum. This paper examines one intriguing development in First Peter – its remarks on persecution. Christ-believers are to persist in “good works,” inspired by the (possibly naïve) hope that doing so will result in the conversion of the persecutors.
