Rasbiologins språk: En diskursanalys av Herman Lundborgs verk
Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
In this paper, six texts by Herman Lundborg are analysed based on the theory of discourse psychology. Herman Lundborg was the head of The State Institute for Racial Biology from its founding in 1922 to 1935. He spent his career as a scientist conducting research within various fields, including racial biology, and working for the advancement of eugenics, the practical application of racial biology in society. The analysis finds that in the texts he used his racial discourse to divide people into groups, other than what he explicitly states with regard to race, to emphasise the perceived superiority of the “Nordic race”, and to justify his overall message. No difference is found between the texts with respect to discourse.
