Abstract [en]

In this thesis the phenomena of economic voting is studied. Economic voting is the effect of the economy on political outcome. A political party or coalition can be changed from the leadership of the government but the ideology of the replacing party can be the same. The analysis will be performed for each of the 28 countries that form the European Union and on the European Union as a whole. The data is from 1995 to 2012. Here the effect of GDP/capita and unemployment on change of the government political ideology is studied. The conclusion is that neither GDP/capita or unemployment have an effect on the change of the government political ideology.
