Abstract [en]

There is a lack of literature analyzing the influence of announcements made by politicians on the stock market. This study seeks to determine whether Vladimir Putin’s firm-specific statements have an effect on the short-term stock market returns, and whether this effect differs over the years. In order to detect this, I have employed an event study methodology. The results of this study suggest that Vladimir Putin’s positive firm-specific statements do have a significant effect on the security returns. There is an indication that Vladimir Putin’s power over the pricing mechanism has increased over the years.
