Prospective Pocketbook Voting?: Evidence from Studying the Election Promise to Abolish the Property Tax
Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
In the election campaign of 2006 the centre-right coalition (known as the Alliance) promised to abolish the property tax if they won the election and replaced with a low municipal fee. This is a reform that benefitted house owner, especially those living in urban areas where property values are high. In other words, they had a lot to gain from a centre-right victory. By using house owners as the treated and others as the control group, I look for evidence of prospective pocketbook voting in the 2006 election. My results are statistically insignificant.
