Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Organisational change is something that occurs on a daily basis within organizations. Major organizational changes often creates staff-related problems that the organization's management must take into account. One of the biggest organizational changes an organization can undergo is a so-called fusion, which is the process of one organization that merges with another company. In recent years it has become increasingly common with fusions between institutions of higher education.

The authors' aim of this paper is to examine the staff-related issues that can occur when two universities or other institutions of higher education with different preconditions comes together through a merger. This has been achieved through the use of a case study.

The results of the survey show that continuous information from management to the employees is of utmost importance to avoid and mitigate employee-related problems to the greatest possible extent. The result also, among other things, shows that the culture may or may not cause problems within a merger depending on how well suited the cultures of the different institutions are towards each other.
