In this paper I analyze how the Swedish agency Bergskollegium sought to improve the Swedish mining industry from the late 17th to the mid-18th century. I focus on the manner in which the agency gathered and transferred knowledge. By doing this I argue that the organization follows a master-apprentice-model of knowledge transfer rather than a modern scientific way of learning by reading and teaching.
