In our present globalized world, researchers in many fields explore the possibilities of creating transcultural theories and concepts within the humanities and social sciences. I discuss mainly Chinese theories of fiction through the ages, in a domestic as well as in a global context, to raise certain basic questions about transcultural theories and concepts of fiction.
