Predicting long-term outcomes in extremely preterm infants is challenging. Iyer <italic toggle="yes">et al. show that the average shapes of EEG bursts in the first 72 hours after birth predict neurodevelopmental outcome at age 2 years, and that poorer outcomes are associated with sharper, more asymmetric complexes.See Luhmann <italic toggle="yes">et al.
