2015 (English)In: Neo-Aramaic and its Linguistic Context / [ed] Geoffrey Khan & Lidia Napiorkowska, Piscataway: Gorgias Press, 2015, 70-99 p.Chapter in book (Refereed)
This article deals with a considerable number of Turkish lexical elements which have entered the Ṣūrayt/Ṭūrōyo language at different periods, mostly from 1940s onwards, some of the elements being taken over from Kurdish and Arabic dialects. The article also gives an account of some of the Ṣūrayt/Ṭūrōyo lexical elements which had been in use before the Turkish elements were borrowed, demonstrating thus some important changes that took place within the Ṣūrayt/Ṭūrōyo lexicon. Further, the article suggests some etymological solutions, which are important not only for Ṣūrayt/Ṭūrōyo, but also for some other languages in the region. This is especially true of some cases of homonymy.
